In search of lost time is a piano recital and a multidisciplinary evening in one, about Marcel Proust and the experience of time. The pianist Jan Michiels plays a recital with many works from Proust’s time (Debussy, Dupont) to which the composer Juan Parra Cancino responds with live electronics and Lise Bruyneel with live video projection on fabric, both in a mixture of early material and contemporary elements.
The programme of short piano pieces is built around composers from the time of Proust (Debussy, Dupont), but also around composers that Proust admired (Schumann, Wagner) and modern composers who fit well with Proust’s oeuvre (Ligeti, Kurtag).
The theme of the concert is about perception of time, memory formation and the way in which memories are present in our lives today.
The various elements of the performance are combined with a custom-made set into a hybrid, yet coherent form.
